I came up with this idea to put up spells I thought would be interesting to have around the site. There are hexes, charms, jinxes, etc. for you to use during your years (terms) at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The rules to this is extremely simple, but if you have any questions owl (PM) me and I will answer it the best that I can. As long as I have been role-playing I have never really made my characters cast a spell. I have always done 'Holden chanted a spell under his breath making the object move toward him quickly to make things move faster.' I want this site to have the real affect of being at Hogwarts, and since this is an Intermediate - Advanced board I thought this would be a perfect time to have something like this.
During your role-playing you can make your character say any of these spells, curses, jinxes, and hexes, etc as long as it's within your year. Your character might be brilliant as all get out, but you still can't use that spell until you move up a year. Now below I am going to put up some rules on how to use the spells that you use in your threads and posts. I've set it up by year so all you really have to do is look at what spells you can cast in your year. Obviously if you're a second year you know first year spells and second year spells - same with seventh years. When you are in seventh year you are able to cast every spell on this list without receiving a detention.
Categories of Spells: First Year Spells, Second Year Spells, Third Year Spells, Fourth Year Spells, Fifth Year Spells, Sixth Year Spells, Seventh Year Spells.
You might be confused about some spells so I am going to give you an example of two kinds of spells. If you have any questions about these please owl (PM) me and I will get back to you ASAP and as best as I can.
Example:
- Accio (AK-ee-oh)
Causes an object to fly to the caster, even over quite some distance; the target object is said to have been summoned.
- Antler Jinx (Incantation is Unknown)
Causes the victim to sprout antlers.
Definition of Accio: When a spell has how to pronounce it like (AK-ee-oh) you have to say the name of the spell. For example: Holden pulled at his wand looking at the comic book on the other side of the common room. Slowly he said, "Accio!" and the comic book came toward him gracefully landing in his lap. End of example. Now as you can see it's under the fourth year category so only Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh years (along with teachers) can use this spell.
Definition of Antler Jinx: If it has (Incantation is Unknown) this means that you don't have to say the name at all. All you have to do is say that your character said it. This also goes with the spells that say 'No Spell Words Used; Automatic Reaction'. For example: Holden pulled out his wand and muttered a jinx and antlers began popping out of Harmony's head. Soon a chuckle was out of his lips then he ran for his life knowing she was going to kick his arse soon. End of example.

- Alohomora (AL-o-ho-MOR-ah)
Charm that causes a locked door to open.
- Backfiring Jinx (Incantation Unknown)
Makes victims wand backfire.
- Bluebell Flames (Incantation Unknown)
Creates a quantity of blue flame which can be directed to a specific place.
- Bubbles (Incantation Unknown)
Spell which pours non-bursting golden bubbles out of the wand.
- Defensive Charge (No Incantation Needed; Automatic Response)
A charge like that of electricity runs through the body of a wizard with this automatic defensive spell.
- Defensive Charm (Incantation Unknown)
Defends caster for a short while.
- Flashing Paint Charm (Unknown Incantation)
This “tricky little charm” makes the paint on the banner flash different colors.
- Locomotor Mortis (lo-co-MO-to MOR-tis)
Locks together the legs of the victim, making him or her unable to walk.
- Lumos (LOO-mos)
Causes a small beam of light to shine from the end of the caster’s wand.
- Petrificus Totalus (pe-TRI-fi-cus-to-TAH-lus) “Fully Body Bind”
Turns the entire body of the victim rigid.
- Wand Effects (No Spell Words Used; Automatic Response)
Causes loud booming noises, sparks, or flashes of light, designed to get people’s attention.
- Wand Sparks (No Spell Words Used; Automatic Response)
Emits red or green sparks from the wand, used as a signal.
Second Year Spells
- Aparecium (a-par-EE-see-um)
Makes invisible ink become visible.
- Entrancing Enchantments (Incantation Unknown)
Spell that cause the target person to fall in love with the caster.
- Evanesco (ev-an-ES-ko)
Makes something vanish completely.
- Finite Incantatem (fi-NEE-tay in-cant-TAH-tum)
Stops currently operating spell effects.
- Fixing Charm (Unknown Incantation)
Spell that magically fastens one thing to another.
- Fur Spell (Unknown Incantation)
A spell that causes a person to grow fur.
- Gripping Charm (Unknown Incantation)
Spell that allows the enchanted object to be held more easily.
- Homorphus Charm (Unkown Incantation)
A good charm to use against a werewolf.
- Rictusempra (ric-tu-SEM-pra)
Causes a person to laugh uncontrollably.
- Serpensortia (ser-pen-SOR-sha)
Causes a large serpent to burst from the end of the caster’s wand.
- Slug-Vomiting Charm (Unknown Incantation)
Causes the victim to belch up slugs.
- Stupefy (STOO-puh-fye)
Renders the target of the unconscious, spell hurls a bolt of red light.
- Tarantallegra (TAIR-an-tuh-LEG-ruh) Second Year
Forces the victim’s legs to do a crazy dance.
Third Year Spells
- Braking Charm (Incantation Unknown)
Charm used on a broomstick to allow it to stop effectively.
- Cheering Charm (Incantation Unknown)
A charm that cheers a person up, makes them happy.
- Confundo (con-FUN-doh)
Causes confusion. A person who is affected by this Charm is said to be confunded.
- Dissendium (dis-EN-dee-um)
Opens the secret door in the statue of the hump-backed witch.
- Expecto Patronum (ex-PEK-toh pa-TROH-num)
Conjures a Patronous, a silvery phantom shape, usually that of the animal, which is embodiment of the positive thoughts of the caster.
- Expelliarmus (ex-pel-ee-AR-mus)
Causes opponent’s weapon to fly out of his or her hand.
- Feather-Light (Incantation Unknown)
Spell that makes the target object weigh practically nothing.
- Ferula (feh-ROO-lah)
Spell that conjures a wooden rod.
- Impervius (im-PER-vee-us)
Makes something waterproof or water repellent.
- Lightening Spell (Unknown Incantation)
Causes an object to become less heavy and thereby easier to carry.
- Mobilicorpus (MO-bi-lee-COR-pus)
Moves a body.
- Nox (Noks)
Turns off the light from a Lumos spell.
- Riddikulus (ri-di-KYOO-lus)
Requires the visualize of his or her worst fear in an amusing form while saying this spell, then it forces the boggart to take an appearance which inspires laughter which is defensive against the creature.
- Waddiwasi (wah-di-WAH-see)
Shoots a wad of gum out of a keyhole.
Fourth Year Spells
- Accio (AK-ee-oh)
Causes an object to fly to the caster, even over quite some distance; the target object is said to have been summoned.
- Armour-Bewitching Charm (Incantation Unknown)
Bewitches a suit of armour to sing Christmas carols.
- Avis (AH-vis)
Conjures a flock of small, twittering birds.

Encloses the head of the caster with a bubble of breathable air.
- Canary Transfiguration Hex (Incantation Unknown)
A temporary hex to change someone into a giant canary. After a few moments, the transfigured person molts back into themselves.

This spell causes magical chains to snake out of a chair and bind a person to it.
- Conjunctivitis Curse (Incantation Unkown)
A spell that affects the eyes and vision of the target.

This spell / spells make(s) a contract magically unbreakable.
- Cross-Species Switches (Incantation Unknown)
Classification of Transfiguration magic in which one type of creature is transfigured into another.
- Deletrius (deh-LEE-tree-us)
Erases the ghost images of spells revealed by Priori Incantato.
- Densaugeo (den-sah-OO-gi-oh)
Causes the victim’s teeth to enlarge grotesquely.

Spell that cuts something open.
- Drought Charm (Incantation Unknown)
Dries up water.

Spell which causes the target to swell in size.
- Extinguishing Spell (Unknown Incantation)
Spell that puts out fires.

Curse that causes boils to break out all over the victim.
- Grooming Charms (Unknown Incantation)
Minor spells for personal grooming.

A form of magic orclass of spells that defend the caster against hexes.

Transfigures the target’s tongue to a bony substance resembling horn, presumably.

Stops an object or slows it down.

Starts a fire.

This hex removes hair.
- Pepper Breath (Unknown Incantation)
This charm gives the target person fiery hot breath.
- Point Me (Unknown Incantation)
Wand rotates to point north.

This spell creates a magical barrier that will deflect hexes thrown at the caster.
- Reducio (re-DOO-see-oh)
Causes an engorged object to return to its normal size.
- Reducto (re-DUC-toh)
Blasts solid objects out of the caster’s path.
- Reparo (re-PAR-oh)
Undoes damage to an object.
- Severing Charm (Unknown Incantation)
Spell to cut something.
- Sonorus (so-NO-rus)
Makes the caster’s voice carry over long distances.
- Trip Jinx (Unknown Incantation)
Trips the target.
- Twitchy Ears Hex (Unknown Incantation)
Causes the ears of the victim to wiggle and twitch uncontrollably.

Fifth Year Spells

Cleans things.

Magically silences the target of the spell.
- Tergeo (tair-GAY-oh)
Cleans up the target object or person.

Causes the target’s toenails to grow alarmingly fast.
Sixth Year Spells
- Aguamenti (AH-gwa-MEN-tee)
Charm that conjures a fountain or jet of clear water from the caster’s wand.
- Apparation / Apparate / Disapparate
Advanced spell used by a fully trained witches and wizards to disappear from one place and appear almost instantly somewhere else.
- Appariation, Side Along
A from of Apparation in which the Apporator (the person Apparating) touches someone else, such as a child too young to Apparate, and Apparates with that person as a “passenger”.

Presumably makes the target’s fingers like jelly, so that they cannot grasp anything properly.

Causes the target’s legs to wobble uncontrollably.

Causes the target’s knee to become backwards.
- Leek Jinx (Unknown Incantation)
Results in leeks growing out of the target’s ears.

Dangles the target person upside-down by the ankle in mid-air.

Counter-jinx to Levicorpus.
